Eugen de Ryck
Eugen de Ryck Bio
Infatuated by the sound of the guitar since the age of three, Eugen de Ryck became known during the 90ies as someone who can play the guitar very fast. More recently Eugen has slowed his guitar playing down and is taking his listeners into a new dimension by playing 'tranceriffs'. Despite this change of style his audiences are still able to enjoy a spectacular performance when he plays.
Eugen's musical passions are for funky jazz, rock and latin grooves which he has been producing and performing for the past fourteen years, together with the grand Steffen Meder on drums (Sugar Beat, Howard Donald/ Take That…). He has played numerous sessions and gigs with familiar artists such as Fred Braceful (drums with Chick Corea), Rocky Gnauer (bass with Chet Baker). At an audition for the new Star Club, Tony Sheridan (Beatles) chose Eugen as his sideman from a great number of other contestants.
Mike Just/Starving Missile Records (who discovered Dead Kennedy) produced Eugen´s group Skipjack. This production was used by John Peel among others, and is something Eugen is particularly proud of.
Eugen de Ryck had the honour of playing with Billie Holliday´s, John Coltrane´s … pianist and composer Mal Waldron while playing with Embryo; He also joined the Weather Girls on stage.
At the Culture Beat and Fun Factory projects, Eugen played guitars on their studio recordings.
The song "In the Ghetto" by Ghettopeople Feat, L-Viz sold more than 20 million times world-wide. The production received a platinum award.
Eugen also played with the Polish number one Jazzrock band, Tie Break and worked closely with their musical mastermind, trumpeter, Ziut Gralak (Twinkle Brothers, Nick Cave) and Marcin Pospieszalski/ bass (Pat Metheney, Frank Gambale). As a result several CDs were produced such as, Tie Break "Gin Gin Lop", "Yeshe" (the solo project by Zuit Gralak).
Eugen de Ryck's ethno-rock-band 'Universal Supersession' was repeatedly published by Hammer Music (Puff Daddy, Fools Garden, Frank Zappa). During live gigs Eugen came into contact with musicians such as James Brown, Lester and Joe Bowie, Kraan, Can und Guru Guru.
It was in this band that Eugen started playing with Steffen Meder.
The list of musicians Eugen played with is endless and can be looked up or googled eg the „German Rocklexikon", the New York „All about Jazz", the Italian Ethnica or the in French Campus Charts.

Eugen played a number of great gigs eg in the Theatron –Olympiapark Munich. Soon after that Steffen Meder and EDR were reunited with the bass player Reggie Worthy (ex Ike and Tina Turner) who already sang and played the bass on Universal Supersession Album "Abracadabra".
This was followed by "Brasilique", the new Brasil- Lounge-Funk project - he plays here with the bass player, Marko Terlevic and the brazilian Singer and boxer Marcio Santos Lima.
